Registrations are now open and hedgelayers across the country are filling out the entry form to compete in the most prestigious hedgelaying competition of the year, the National Championships.
It is free for any competent hedgelayer, who is a paid up member of the NHLS, to register to compete for one of the coveted trophies or prizes on offer.
At 9am the starting gun will sound , signalling the beginning of the match, with over 100 hedgelayers giving their best, within the 10 different style classes.
Cutting, staking, hammering, binding, trimming, measuring and a good deal of hard grafting will take place throughout the day, each style having it’s own specific standards for the judges to mark on. Stewards on standby to watch that all rules are abided by, and, that health and safety regulations are adhered to.
The Nationals are a great day out in the country for all the family.
Ample free car parking and a £10 entry per person. Members of the hedgelaying society get in free, and it’s not too late to join! Become a member before the event (£25) and enjoy a year’s membership of the society and free entry to the Nationals. This way, you are also supporting the work of the society in promoting and maintaining the craft for future generations and for the benefit of the hedges and the environment.
